MAP Response to BLOG # 2
As a part of Sean's Research Series he has requested a weekly response to his blog from me, as the Artistic Director of MAP. Next week I also hope to skype in to his Movement Lab and potentially be involved in that discussion as well.
As an organisation, MAP always aims to be transparent and about advocating for the artist and nurture the study of movement.
Currently, my personal interest has directly related to an essay by William Forsythe which speaks to the idea of the 'Choreographic Object'. He states that Choreography and Dancing are two very distinct practices. The further I explore choreography, my own practice and ways to engage 'everyday people' in choreographic practice, the less I find myself particulary attending to 'dancing' but rather the body, the collective body and the blurring of definitions and disciplines, and yet I think that language becomes both more and less important. I also recently uploaded a brief insight into Forsythe's work, "Nowhere And Everywhere At The Same Time" which was performed on 15 / 16 / 17 and 22 / 23 / 24 June 2012 at the Artiglierie dell'Arsenale, Venice. In his interview in the clip he refers to Barbara Johnson stating 'nothing fails like success'.
MAP invites independent artists to share their practice with written and video blogs.
